Underwater Photography Tips

Does this sound familiar...

You bought a new camera and an underwater camera housing to go with it. You couldn't wait to go diving and start photographing the exotic marine life, but now you are back above the surface the results aren't quite what you were expecting. If so, you are not alone. Read on...

This email, the second in a series, is meant just for you. It will present you with tips that will help you improve your underwater photography experience. Buying an underwater housing for your camera should be just the beginning of the adventure. Follow our tips to get results that you will be proud of.

Tip #2

Do your underwater close up images come out blurred?
Get a Macro Lens for your Housing!

Some of the most magnificant photographs taken underwater are close-up images of small fish, nudibranchs, corals, flatworms, eyes of larger fish and more. Considering the fact that macro photography is relatively easy to compose with respect to exposure, lighting and focus settings, it is often the most popular type of photography among beginner photographers.

Most compact digital cameras feature a minimum focus distance that enables sharp images only to a certain extent and within a certain distance from the subject. For this reason, many of your close-up images might turn out to be blurred, and zooming in usually only makes the problem worse.

"Wet" Macro Lenses

"Wet" Macro lenses are accessory lenses that fit onto the housing’s lens port and can be installed and removed during the course of the dive. When installed on the housing's lens port, the macro lens magnifies the subject and enables the camera to focus on short distances for creating super sharp images. These lenses are perfect for shooting close-up images of fish, corals, textures and more.

Fantasea Accessory Lenses

Fantasea optic products are designed to enhance and improve your underwater images with respect to sharpness, focus range, colors and overall image quality. Fantasea Line offers a selection of “wet” accessory lenses that fit onto the housing’s lens port and can be installed and removed during the course of the dive. These accessory lenses are mounted on the housing lens port and held in place by a 46mm aluminum screw thread. Fantasea accessory lenses and red filters are compatible with Fantasea and other brands compact digital housings.
