How can I keep my housing from fogging up?
Fogging is the effect of condensation, which occurs as a result of an increase in air temperature inside the housing, followed by submersion in cooler water. Even tropical 85° water is cool in comparison with 95° air temperature that may be heating up your housing. So keep the housing in a cool, shady place before diving. We do recommend using a Fantasea padded housing bag, or similar protection, which is insulated and can help keep the housing cool. Another recommendation is to select the shortest optional time on your camera, that will automatically switch it into standby operation. The LCD monitor is a big source of heat while it is on. Longer standby options will keep the monitor on for an unnecessary duration, and will contribute greatly to the increase in internal air temperature in the housing. If fogging persists, you can use a few drops of any anti-fog liquid on the inside of the lens port of the housing. Just a few drops, and be sure it is completely dry before inserting the camera back in the housing. Do not get any anti-fog on the camera or lens as it can cause damage. Another helpful tip is to install a Silica Gel Pack inside the camera housing, next to the camera. Silica Gel Packs absorb moisture and prevent condensation inside the housing, and therefore also assist with preventing the housing from fogging up. The Silica Gel Pack should be placed inside the housing, after installing the camera. It is extremely important to make sure that it is placed in a way that doesn't interfere with the watertight seal of the housing. Therefore it's best to keep it away from the main O-ring seal of the housing, and to make sure that the housing is completely closed and the O-ring is all visible prior entering the water. It is also recommended to soak the housing in a small pool of water prior diving with it, in order to ensure that nothing interferes with the watertight seal of the housing.
